Privacy Policy

1. Information we collect

You give us: tasks, commitments, notes and settings you create in the app; the content of emails you send us.

Generated as you use the app: focus session times, states and outcomes; the AI’s derived description of your current activity (a one-sentence paraphrase, never a verbatim copy of what is on screen), focus state, confidence, application name, site category, time spent, focus score; anonymous feature-usage statistics (allow-listed fields, on by default, can be switched off); local diagnostic records used for bug hunting, which are not uploaded.

Processed instantly and not kept: during a focus session you start, the app reads a snippet of text and one screenshot of the current window in order to judge whether you are on task. This is raw content: it is discarded as soon as the judgement is made, and is never written to any database or any log, on your device or on our servers.

We do not collect: tracking cookies; third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. We never see your payment details — subscriptions are handled by the App Store. Where an account is required for a feature such as cross-device sync, the sign-in details are used only for that feature and are kept separate from anything to do with your screen.

2. How we use it

• To provide the service: judging whether you are on task, generating nudges and session summaries, keeping your task and review history.
• To improve the product: anonymous usage statistics tell us which features have value. Data used to improve the accuracy of the AI’s judgement is a separate choice, kept apart from providing the service, and can be switched off on its own.
• For security: identifying and stopping abuse of the service.
• To meet legal obligations.

We do not use your personal information for advertising, and we do not sell it.

3. Who we disclose it to

Third-party AI provider. To perform the focus judgement, a text snippet and a screenshot of the current window are submitted to a third-party AI provider’s model API. Under that provider’s published policy, data submitted through the API is not used to train their models by default, but may be retained for up to 30 days for abuse detection. We have a data processing agreement in place. We make no claim that the provider retains nothing. If we change provider, or obtain zero-retention status, we will update this section.

Infrastructure providers. Hosting and email delivery providers may handle data only to the extent necessary to provide the service to you.

Legal requirements. We may disclose information where required by law, or where necessary to protect someone’s safety or prevent fraud.

Business transfer. In a merger, acquisition or transfer of assets, your information may transfer as part of those assets. We will give notice, and the recipient must honour the commitments in this policy.

4. How long we keep it

• Raw screen content (screenshots, on-screen text, full URLs, verbatim window titles): not kept. Discarded immediately after the judgement.
• Derived descriptions and session history: stored on your device for as long as you want them; you can delete them at any time.
• Anonymous usage statistics: kept in aggregate form, carrying no identity.
• Local diagnostic records: on your device only; you can clear them yourself.
• Email correspondence: kept for a reasonable period after the matter is resolved.

Deleting the app deletes the local data. Please note that backing up local data is your responsibility — the app provides an export function, and we recommend exporting regularly or using a system backup such as Time Machine.

5. Your rights

Wherever you are, you can:

• View your session history and derived descriptions in the app.
• Export your data using the in-app export function.
• Delete individual records, all records, or simply uninstall the app.
• Switch off anonymous usage statistics in settings.
• Switch off contributing data used to improve the AI’s judgement — a separate control.
• Fence off what is never looked at, using the private apps list.
• Withdraw screen recording permission at any time in macOS System Settings. Focus company then stops; timers and task management continue to work.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, mainland China or another jurisdiction with dedicated data legislation, you may have further rights of access, correction, restriction, portability and complaint. Write to privacy@ipokiapp.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Said plainly: anonymous usage statistics already uploaded cannot be deleted for a single device. They carry no identifier, so we have no technical means of locating yours. Switching the setting off stops all further collection and upload.

6. Security

• Data in transit is protected with TLS.
• Raw screen content never enters persistent storage, so there is no store of it to breach.
• Derived descriptions live on your device. They are uploaded, encrypted, only if you switch on cross-device sync yourself — and what reaches the cloud is always the description, never raw screen content.
• Automated checks guard these claims, including checks that restricted content cannot appear in logs.

No security measure is absolute. Please report security issues to security@ipokiapp.com.

7. International transfers

Our AI provider is located in the United States, so the instantaneous judgement data described above is processed there. When we serve the European Union or mainland China, we will arrange processing and storage locations in accordance with local law and, where required, obtain your separate consent.

8. Children

The app is intended for people able to give valid consent on their own behalf. Anyone below that age may not use it. A minor above that age may use it only with the consent of a guardian, and only for managing their own focus — a guardian may not use this app to observe a minor.

If you believe a child below the age threshold has given us personal information, please contact privacy@ipokiapp.com and we will delete it.

The exact minimum age will be confirmed by counsel for each launch market before release.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in the app or on this website, and the “last updated” date above will change. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept it.
